The origins of the castle date back to the second half of the 13th century. From 1309, Malbork was the seat of the great masters of the Teutonic Order and the capital of one of the most powerful states of medieval Europe. It is the largest Gothic castle complex in the world, with an area of approximately 21 hectares, a masterpiece of defensive and residential architecture of the late Middle Ages.
